The city of Cannon Falls, Minnesota is known to have great outdoor recreation. However, it also is home to a number of museums and attractions that have become quite popular. These museums and attractions have helped to increase the tourism within the city, as well as attract visitors from around the country.
One of the most prominent museums in Cannon Falls is the Cannon Falls Historical Museum. The historical museum, located at 206 West Mill Street, is apart of the 1888 Cannon Falls Fire Hall. it is listed on the National Historic Register and is one of the oldest fire halls that is still standing in the United States of America. It contains an old 1920’s schoolroom, as well as a plethora of old pictures, artifacts, and other artifacts related to Cannon Falls history.
Another interesting historical location to visit is the Colonel William Colvill Statue and Monument. The monument is located in the Cannon Falls Cemetary and represents one of the most famous people associated with Cannon Falls.
Visitors to the area have also found the Goodhue County History Center to be an excellent place to spend an afternoon. The Goodhue County Historical Society is the oldest county historical society in the entire state of Minnesota.
Some other places that have become quite popular in Cannon Falls are the Vasa Museum and the Historic Downtown Cannon Falls district. The Vasa Museum is a museum celebrating the early Swedish-American settlements that was opened in 1862. It is known to be a center of the earliest Swedish-American culture and has been restored in recent history. The Historic Downtown Cannon Falls district has number of buildings that are found on the National Historic Register. The Historic Downtown Cannon Falls district portrays the small midwestern agricultural communities that were prevalent during the time period of 1880 to 1915.
